Understanding the difference between a Mass Flow Meter and a Rotameter is crucial for selecting the right flow measurement device for your application. A Mass Flow Meter measures the mass flow rate of a fluid traveling through a tube. It provides highly accurate readings by directly measuring the mass of the fluid, regardless of its temperature, pressure, or density. This makes it ideal for applications requiring precise control, such as in chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, and gas flow measurement.
On the other hand, a Rotameter, also known as a variable area flow meter, measures the volumetric flow rate of a fluid. It consists of a tapered tube and a float that rises and falls with the flow rate. The position of the float is proportional to the flow rate, which can be read on a scale. Rotameters are simple, cost-effective, and easy to install, making them suitable for applications where high precision is not critical, such as in water treatment and HVAC systems.
